Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, which helps to digitize the world of physical operations, providing visibility and empowering entire sectors of our economy to become more safe, efficient, and sustainable. Founded in San Francisco in 2015, we now employ more than 2,000 people globally and collect more than 40 billion minutes of video footage and 5 trillion data points annually.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including video-based safety, vehicle telematics, apps and driver workflows, equipment monitoring, and site visibility. As part of a newly public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

Best Place to Work by Built In 2022

Deloitte Fast 500 Companies

IoT Analytics Company of the Year in 2022’s IoT Breakthrough Winners

Every year, we partner with our customers to deliver outcomes like conserving millions of gallons of fuel, saving millions of dollars, and creating positive environmental change. As more customers connect to our platform, our data grows, our AI models get smarter, and our opportunities expand.

About the role:

Samsara’s Hardware Quality team enables an exceptional customer experience by building reliable hardware, identifying opportunities to improve customer experience, and engaging cross-functionally to resolve key issues. In this role, a successful candidate will help build our Embedded Systems (HW/FW) Automation Test Framework. This key role will enable teams to ship high quality products, ship FW updates to our customers faster, and facilitate quality investigations.

You should apply if:

  • You want to make a difference: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You build for scale: Samsara already has more than 2.3 million IoT devices deployed globally with customers that depend on our technology and look forward to the new solutions brought about by our engineers’ innovation. You may work on a mature product that is operating at a large scale already or a product in the early stages that is still being developed.
  • You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
  • You crave technical ownership: The development of our Connected Operations Cloud technology has only just begun and offers a range of technical challenges that will sharpen your skills and provide opportunities for rapid career growth.

This may not be the right role for you if:

  • You aren’t willing to put in the work: The opportunity we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious, and innovative ideas for our customers.
  • You have nothing more to learn: Every Samsarian has a growth mindset and believes that what got us here won’t get us there.
  • You aren’t a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win—together.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and maintain test infrastructure (SW, FW, and HW) to perform automated testing across Samsara’s current product portfolio and future designs.
  • Use your passion for testing software, firmware, and hardware to stress our embedded systems and identify failure points to improve the design, reliability and performance of our products.
  • Build the framework for testing our hardware/firmware platforms by working closely with the development team (FW, EE, ME, NPI) to define product test plans and ensure we have complete test coverage.
  • Test and verify features of the test infrastructure and manage the cross-organizational deployment and training.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Five years experience testing embedded systems, IoT and connected devices.
  • Scripting and Python programming skills.
  • Experience creating and implementing test cases for wireless protocols.
  • Use of test frameworks including pytest, buildkite, jenkins, etc.
  • Experience with test instrumentation including the use of power supplies, power analyzers, battery simulators, call boxes, and GPS simulators.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • At least 5 years experience working as a QA engineer with emphasis on developing test cases and holistic test frameworks (inclusive of hardware and software).
  • Experience building and maintaining automation testing infrastructure from the ground up.
  • Experience testing devices with wireless protocols including BLE, WiFi, LTE, and GNSS.
  • Experience interfacing with embedded systems’ command line interfaces and AT commands.
  • Experience defining test plans, triaging test failures and reporting result data and relevant metrics.
  • Experience with data analysis tools/packages such as SQL, Pandas, databricks, etc.
