About the team

The Support Operations Group is a small team of engineers and data scientists responsible for improving the efficiency of the Global Cloudflare Customer Support Team. Our team is responsible for a diverse mix of systems and network tooling that leverage machine learning to provide intelligent responses to Cloudflare customers’ and diagnostics across the Cloudflare edge network.

This internship is targeting students with experience and interest in Software Engineering, Data Science (Machine Learning), or Data Analytics 

What you’ll do

The wide variety in Cloudflare products and the broad technical focus of the team means you will have an opportunity to develop your skills in a number of ways. Every sprint will award you an opportunity to build technically innovative solutions while balancing big-picture goals. You will play an active part in shaping and designing systems, then execute the plan with talented engineers and data scientists. Together, you will create innovative and ambitious projects focused on helping Cloudflare customers and the global technical support team. These applications are composed of microservices, machine learning automations, and 3rd party integrations. The ideal candidate will participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle and be exposed to a wide range of technologies and programming languages, including Go, Python, Javascript, Cloudflare, Google Cloud Platform, PostgreSQL, Grafana, and Kubernetes.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Pursuing degree in B.S. or M.S in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of modern enterprise data architectures, design patterns, and data toolsets and the ability to apply them
  • Proficiency in data modeling techniques and understanding of normalization
  • Excellent debugging and optimization skills
  • Unit/integration testing experience
  • Strong data visualization skills
  • Creative problem solving skills and proactive learning
  • Experience with Go, Python, or Javascript.
  • Comfortable solving complex problems with relative independence. 
  • Familiar with distributed system design and implementation.
  • Exposure to containerization, Kubernetes and CI/CD systems.
  • A good understanding of how the Internet works (DNS, HTTP(S), etc).
  • Experience building infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Effective communication of describing technical situations to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to manage deliverables and expectations across multiple key stakeholders
  • Keen interest in customer support/customer experience

Bonus Points

  • Experience using Cloudflare’s products.
  • Experience with Salesforce Service Cloud
