Alkimiya is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol building trustless capital markets for blockspace, the fundamental resource fueling the entire crypto ecosystem.

Our Silica protocol provides effective and user-friendly risk management solutions for both blockspace producers and users.

Our Vault protocol allows individuals and institutions to share in the rewards for making the world’s major blockchains safe and secure.

About the team

We are a lean and well-capitalized team of 8, working fully remotely with flexible hours across 4 countries and timezones. We’ve just raised a strategic round led by 1kx, Castle Island Ventures and Dragonfly. We take two offsites per year where we focus on building connections with teammates and having fun. So far we’ve had offsites in Barcelona, London and Denver.

Role responsibilities

This role is fully remote and seeks long-term commitment (whether full-time or otherwise); we need someone to build up a deep understanding of what we’re trying to build, what our users are trying to do, and how to make it simple and intuitive.

Our current needs revolve more around UX and accessibility than visual design, identity, or branding, although the latter are also valued. Primary responsibilities include:

• Collaborating with the product lead, developers, and stakeholders to define requirements and develop user-friendly design solutions.
• Creating and maintaining design documentation, such as wireframes, mockups, user flows, and interactive prototypes.
• Working closely with the entire team to incorporate feedback, explore experimental concepts, and socialize design objectives.
• Conducting user research, interviews, and usability testing to gather feedback and iterate on designs based on the unique needs of blockspace users and producers.
• Contributing to and maintaining a design system and component library. Ensuring they are consistent across all Alkimiya products, and are easy to navigate by the frontend engineering team.
• Staying updated on UI/UX design trends, DeFi, and fintech best practices to continuously improve our products

Core skills and experience

• Fluent in English, with exceptional communication and presentation skills, and the ability to effectively articulate design decisions and their rationale.
• A subtraction mindset that prioritizes simplification and reducing complexity
• Professional experience as UX or product designer in crypto, fintech, or finance.
• Passion for creating inclusive, accessible design solutions tailored to specific user bases.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Experience collaborating in agile, cross-functional teams and a solid understanding of the product development process.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and/or Sketch. Although our primary need is for low-fidelity wireframes, we will also depend on your ability to produce high-fidelity mocks and prototypes, until we have the opportunity to grow our design team.
• Familiarity with DeFi and crypto is a strong plus.
